Message from the Principal

Hello Murphy Ranch Community! I'm super excited to be your next principal. I'd like to tell you a little about myself. I began working for the East Whittier City School District as a 7th grade language arts/social studies teacher at East Whittier Middle School in 2000. In 2008, I became an assistant principal at East Whittier Middle and then principal in 2011. Four years ago the Superintendent at the time asked me to take on the duties of assistant superintendent of personnel. While I enjoyed my two years working at the District I missed being a principal, working with students, staff and parents. When the opening  for the principal position for Ocean View opened up, I expressed an interest and subsequently interviewed.
I have enjoyed my last two years being principal of Ocean View Elementary School. We have made some positive changes and I have really enjoyed working with the Ocean View Community. When our Superintendent asked if I would be willing to move to Murphy Ranch I answered that I would be happy to go. Having been in this District for the last eighteen years, I know how well prepared the students form Murphy Ranch have been prepared for the rigors of middle school. It is evident that the school has a caring staff that truly cares about the students. Additionally, I know how dedicated the parents are to ensuring that their children reach their potential.
Having been a principal, it was and will continue to be a priority that each student is safe at school, both physically and emotionally. As a teacher and an administrator I have felt that it is important to push my students to reach their potential, in doing so I try to see the uniqueness of all my students. Learning can be fun and is an important component of a successful school. For a student to be truly successful at the school the partnership of the school staff and parents must be strong. Together we can ensure that Murphy Ranch students are developing as 21st century learners in the areas of critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity and community.
I look forward to meeting all the Murphy Ranch Mustangs. It is truly an honor to be the principal of Murphy Ranch Elementary School and I'm excited for the 2018-19 school year to get underway.
